Primary objective
Provide the Rum Jungle Project team with technical support by planning and facilitating field trips, undertaking environmental monitoring
programs, engaging with consultants and contractors, and maintaining assets including vehicles and equipment.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Plan, organise and undertake field trips across the NT, ensuring that work health and safety requirements are appropriately addressed
and respond to complexity in the field.
2. Assist and support with the development and implementation of field procedures, protocols, guidelines, and contribute to business
planning and responses relating to risk, public liability, work health and safety, incident, and business continuity.
3. Participate in the management of environmental data including development of relevant operating procedures.
4. Implement work health and safety frameworks, undertake risk assessments for field trips, implement controls and report on field trips,
ensuring all field staff are trained in safe working practices and in the safe operation of all relevant equipment.
5. Provide quality oversight and management of consultants and contractors on legacy mine sites,
6. Organise and maintain field equipment including Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) or Drone/Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and
vehicles as well as purchasing and ensuring adequate stocks of equipment and consumables are maintained.
7. Maintain vehicles ensuring regular servicing, and appropriate levels of safety and retrieval equipment are installed.
8. Support the broader functions of the Legacy Mines Unit Remediation Support team, as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Knowledge and experience planning and undertaking field trips (preferably for the collection of environmental monitoring data) in
remote and challenging conditions, whilst promoting a strong work health and safety culture.
2. General knowledge in environmental monitoring strategies, techniques, and the ability to interpret the results of scientific monitoring
programs, preferably in surface and groundwater quality monitoring and stream gauging.
3. Proven ability to operate of a range of operational equipment including Global Positioning System (GPS) devices, Remotely Piloted
Aircraft (i.e. drones), 4WD's, all-terrain vehicles and practical mindset when approaching equipment failures in the field.
4. Well-developed knowledge and understanding of contemporary and effective health and safety and risk management systems
including an understanding of the governing legislation - Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation) Act 2011.
5. Well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to work well in a team and with consultants,
contractors, and stakeholders to promote effective and collaborative partnerships.
6. Well-developed communication skills, including demonstrated cross-cultural awareness, understanding and knowledge, including a
sound understanding of cultural sensitivities and needs in working with Aboriginal people.
7. A proactive ‘can do’ attitude with good physical fitness and a willingness to undertake physically demanding work in remote locations
for extended periods that may include outside of normal working hours.
8. A current NT C class drivers’ licence and experience driving manual transmission 4WD vehicles.
Desirable
1. Relevant trade or tertiary qualifications or experience in environmental chemistry, geochemistry, in tropical or arid zone climatic
conditions.
2. CASA accreditation for remotely piloted aircraft (drones) and Senior/Remote Area First Aid certificates or ability to obtain.
3. Experience driving all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and boats in remote and isolated settings.
4. Experience in vehicle maintenance and minor repairs.
