Role Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and passionate Youth Officer to deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate interventions for Aboriginal youth. This role involves organising health and recreational programs, building community relationships, and promoting awareness of our services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development: Design and implement culturally relevant health and recreational programs tailored to the needs of Aboriginal youth.
- Community Engagement: Foster and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal communities in the Geraldton and Murchison regions to ensure programs align with community needs.
- Awareness Promotion: Enhance community awareness of our services and programs through effective communication and outreach strategies.
- Program Evaluation: Develop, implement, and assess community awareness programs to ensure their effectiveness and cultural appropriateness.
- Resource Management: Organise and implement community-based activities within allocated budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Qualifications: Diploma or Certificate IV in Youth Work or a related discipline; tertiary qualifications or equivalent in health promotion or community health are also acceptable.
- Communication Skills: Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
- Cultural Competence: Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, health, and related issues, with the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal people in the Geraldton and Murchison regions.
- Program Development Experience: Demonstrated experience or ability to develop, implement, and evaluate community awareness programs.
- Organisational Skills: Ability to organise and implement community-based activities within an allocated budget.
- Relevant Experience: Experience in a similar role.
- Technical Proficiency: Developed computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Local Knowledge: Broad understanding of local health service providers, both government and non-government.
