The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Manager to provide a critical role at Loddon Prison and Middleton.
About the Business Unit
Department of Justice and Community Safety comprises of eight regions, through which compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.
Located at Castlemaine, Loddon Prison is a 477-bed medium security facility for sentenced male individuals. Adjacent to Loddon Prison is Middleton, a 236-bed restricted minimum-security facility for sentenced male individuals. The focus of both facilities is rehabilitation via individual case management, employment, education, training and the provision of programs, targeted interventions to address offending behaviour and promote the development of prosocial behaviour. Both Loddon and Middleton provide contemporary and quality correctional services that prepare people in our care for transition and reintegration.
About the Role
Service industries within the portfolio of work include grounds maintenance, horticulture, recycling, kitchen and laundry. Employment of people in custody is in a vocational training environment that meets commercial and production goals. The Industry Manager will require an understanding of the breadth of this portfolio and have suitably aligned or similar experience.
The Industry Manager is responsible for supervising and ensuring quality outcomes and service provision of production activity. The Industry Manager will provide regular supervision to staff, provide the team with professional development and contribute to ongoing continuous improvement and development of programs and services. The Industry Manager develops team practices and processes, effectively working within the limitations and opportunities of the correctional environment.
The Industry Manager reports to the Vocational Services Manager in addition to interfacing with prison Operations Managers as part of a multidisciplinary team to support offender management practices.
As the Industry Manager, some of your duties will include:
* Leading and managing staff to ensure the safety and security of people in custody, staff and visitors.
* Monitoring staff for a range of compliance activities related to security and safety procedures.
* Providing leadership and support to Industry and Service Industries staff (industry, grounds maintenance, horticulture, recycling industries, visits canteen and kitchen staff).

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Be able to demonstrate an ability to manage a wide-ranging portfolio of production related processes and procedures.
* Demonstrated knowledge of Corrections Victoria policies, procedures, programs, guidelines relating to prison management.
* Excellent computer skills and a good understanding of Microsoft Suite.
Qualifications/requirements
* A relevant qualification in Management, Leadership, and/or Industry specific trade, and/or commensurate experience would be highly regarded.
* Applicants must have successfully completed the Corrections Victoria pre-service training program.
* All prison officers will be required (subject to a small number of exemptions) to be clean shaven for the purpose of wearing, if required in an emergency, the donning of a breathing apparatus.
