Description:

A Council East of Melbourne CBD is looking for a Coordinator of Statutory Planning to join their team until July 2025.
  • Start ASAP until early July 2025
  • Band 8 level - Hourly rates depend on experience
  • Hybrid working
  • Covering long service leave
  • Leading a team of 3 planners
  • Assessing a caseload of complex planning applications (10-12 story high rises)
  • Must have experience in Team leader/Coordinator roles

POSITION OBJECTIVES
  • Coordinate the Statutory Planning Branch and ensure a responsive, customer focused team.
  • Manage a range of complex permit applications.
  • Implement the Planning Scheme to enhance the municipality’s built and natural environment and protect it from the adverse effects of incompatible, inappropriate developments and uses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS AND DUTIES
  • Management
  • Coordinate the provision of statutory planning services within Council in a team environment.
  • Regularly inform the Manager Statutory Planning of progress towards business plans and activities and performance of the Branch.
  • Represent the Manager Statutory Planning on various committees, working groups etc. relevant to statutory planning as required including projects to improve systems and processes.
  • Manage and take responsibility for the timely resolution of all customer queries and complaints relating to statutory planning matters in accordance with Council's Customer Service Guarantee.
  • Develop and implement an appropriate training and staff development program that will enhance the performance and reputation of the statutory planning staff generally within the community and broader planning industry.
  • Planning and Policy
  • Contribute to the development of strategic and operational plans for the Branch that achieve financial responsibility, quality management, client services and best practice targets.
  • Review and streamline systems and processes within the Branch to ensure flexible and responsive service delivery across the Branch that meets client expectations.
  • Planning Permit Applications and Related Matters
  • Assess and determine complex planning permit applications pursuant to the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
