As a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) you will be one of the key links between people with disability (and their families) and the National Disability Insurance Agency. This position will deliver the NDIS LAC PITC program, providing information and support to participants, families and carers to develop, record and implement their NDIS Plan and build community inclusion and capacity.

Our LACs are our front line, serving the community by delivering the NDIS LAC PITC program:

  • Building capacity and providing information to individuals, families and carers to identify their goals, strengths and needs, to plan for their future based on person-centred principles.
  • Developing and monitoring participant plans to ensure meaningful change is achieved while building and maintaining a current working knowledge of local community supports and services.
  • Developing and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders including First Nations communities, culturally and linguistically diverse & LGBTQIA+ communities, community organisations, mainstream community and health service organisations and local governments
  • Maintaining appropriate administrative records utilising the NDIS data system in a timely manner.
  • Undertaking the day-to-day operations of the role in a way that promotes independence, empowerment and involvement of persons with disability both in office and out in the community.

The role will have a focus on building and strengthening the capacity of people with disabilities (both NDIS participants and non-participants), their families and carers, as well as the government, business, and community sectors.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:
  • Implement processes and plans using a person-centred approach.
  • Deliver program-wide strategy to engage people with disability, government, business and community sectors.
  • Support community capacity building projects to meet community needs with strategic long-term vision.
  • Develop strategic, collegial and productive relationships , within and external to Carers Queensland, to ensure the best outcomes for clients, the program and the organisation.

Do you have?
  • Qualifications in Disability, Community Development, Education, Human Services or similar?
  • High-level communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to build rapport quickly and adapt skills according to the audience or target group involved?
  • Demonstrated ability to follow process and systems while being adaptable to the ever-changing landscape of our community and their needs?
  • Demonstrated experience working in the human services sector?
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking a range of community capacity building activities to assist communities to reach a desired outcome?
  • Strong decision-making skills including the ability to analyse need and measure risk?
