The Opportunity
CatholicCare is looking for a Food Programs Coordinator to lead and expand our Food Programs across the Hunter and Mid Coast regions. This permanent part-time role (minimum of 4 days per week, including Thursdays in Forster) is an opportunity to make a real difference by supporting people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and social isolation.
In this role, you will coordinate and support volunteers to deliver parish-based community kitchens, the mobile community kitchen, and breakfast clubs. You will also partner with Catholic schools and community organisations to establish and run these programs, ensuring that vulnerable individuals have access to nutritious meals and a welcoming space.
You will also be responsible for operating mobile food services and providing community support during natural disasters, ensuring those in crisis receive essential welfare and assistance. Some work outside of standard business hours, including weekends, may be required.
Additionally, you will support and provide direction to the Food Program Volunteer Coordinators overseeing volunteer coordination, food supply ordering, donation distribution, invoice processing, delivery rosters, and program enquiries.

Skills and Experiences:
EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA
- A commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values of our organisation and active engagement in organisational events
- Demonstrated coordination of volunteers operating in the Community Kitchen model , mobile community kitchen and breakfast clubs. This includes the preparation of task accountability, and delegation of roles and functions to ensure the services operate in a timely and smooth manner
- Knowledge and sound understanding of the national standards of volunteer involvement
- Sound understanding of kitchen operations and safe food handling practices
- Demonstrated experience in sustaining a positive relationship with food and cash donors
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Demonstrated experience leading a team of employees and volunteers to achieve operational outcomes within the kitchen
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills both with internal and external stakeholders
- Sound Computer literacy including an understanding of the management of the volunteer database e.g. Volaby, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams
- Ability to deliver orientation and training
- Experience in working with diverse social backgrounds and life experiences, and vulnerable people with potentially complex presentations
- Demonstrated Volunteer training and assessment experience (Desirable)
- Ability to tow and reverse a trailer (Desirable)
- Understanding of Disaster relief response protocols and requirements (Desirable)
- Demonstrated experience in responding to media enquiries (Desirable)
- Experience in public presentations (Desirable)
- Certificate IV in training and assessing or a willingness to obtain
- Food Safety Supervisor or willingness to obtain
- Diploma of Leadership and Management or willingness to obtain
- NSW Drivers licence
- WWCC
- Current First Aid Certificate
