About Us

Our grounds cover approximately 14 hectares inclusive of the school farm. We have 1 large and 2 small ovals, palm trees and other trees that require picking up after. We take great pride in the first impression the front of school makes to the public. As a rural school with many students off farm it is nice to have some green space for students to come to in times of drought so the ability to manage a watering system/program to ensure we have maximum green space at minimum cost even during drought is important. We have established a team where the SFO, SGO and Ag Assistant work together to ensure the entire school is maintained to the highest possible standard within a tight budget.

About the Role

As the Schools Officer, Grounds you will contribute to the efficient and effective operation and environment of the school by providing a high level of grounds care and support to the Principal, Business Manager or nominated delegate.

You will perform a range of activities to ensure that the school is maintained to a high standard; follow set instructions; and have independence to perform a variety of day-to-day services that are routine in nature. However, the role receives regular supervision when undertaking duties that are non-routine in nature.

As the Schools Officer, Grounds you will not be required to perform any task or repairs that would normally require the services of a qualified tradesperson. The position reports directly to the Principal, Business Manager or nominated delegate.

Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

  • Ensure the grounds (including gardens, trees, hedges, lawn etc) are maintained in a neat and tidy manner.
  • We have several garden beds with roses and flowering plants that require additional care to ensure the beauty of the grounds.
  • Efficient use of water.

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

  • In accordance with the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 ( https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/pdf/asmade/act-2019-018 ) a person is prohibited from working in regulated child-related employment unless the person holds a current Working with Children Check clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.

OO3 appointees must have possession of a Certificate III qualification or higher relevant to the tasks outlined, from a recognised institution under the Australian Qualification Framework or agreed equivalent which, in the opinion of the Director-General, Department of Education or delegate is acceptable.

Interested? To Apply:

  • Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant work history)
  • Attach a 1-page written statement about how your achievements and capabilities meet the requirements of the role.

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.

Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.

Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
