About the role:
The Operations Manager – North QLD reports to the Director of Operations and carries overall responsibility of a significant locomotive maintenance contract operating throughout Qld. The Operations Manager will be responsible for achieving all aspects of rail safety, site WHS, quality, reporting, budgeting and financial performance and required targets for availability and reliability.
This includes:
- Ensuring a high level of safety and that the business unit is complying with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and associated legislation as well as the Rail Safety National Law Act 2012 as regulated by the Office National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR).
- Problem Solving for customer concerns in a quick and efficient manner.
- Performance management including performance reviews and feedback.
- Making critical and timely decisions in difficult or ambiguous situations.
- Taking charge of a group when necessary to facilitate change, overcome an impasse, face issues, or ensure that decisions are made.
- Engaging with people to create and maintain safe and healthy work environments that support and promote physical and psychological wellbeing .
- Work in collaboration with others in our organisation and take pride in the achievements of the team;
- Strive for improvement and innovation, and have the courage to think and actively contribute new initiatives that benefit Progress Rail
- Responsible and accountable for adhering to the Health, Safety Environment (HSE) policies of Progress Rail.
About you:
- Tertiary or formal qualifications in Management, Mechanical or Electrical engineering – Trade qualified. Or suitably recognised experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated high level Customer Service Experience.
- Proven experience in control of a heavy maintenance facility, and be able to demonstrate experience in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Awards, and dispute settlement, planning, scheduling and budgeting.
- High level communicator skills on both oral and written.
- Intermediate computer skills with exposure to varied systems and applications
- Be dynamic and able to think and act quickly to reprioritise workload to respond to fleet and operational changes.
