Herb Production Worker

Happy Herb Co
East Lismore Full-day Full-time

Description:

Position Description:

Happy Herb Co is a well-established and respected company, founded in 1996, specialising in a diverse range of herbal and health products available through our national retail network and online store. Our mission to promote health and happiness extends beyond our customers and community - it begins within our own workplace.

We foster a healthy, supportive, and dynamic work environment, valuing work-life balance since our inception. Our four-day workweek reflects this commitment, along with access to herbal drinks while working, and discounted herbs to support our team’s personal health journeys.

We are currently seeking a proficient and reliable Herb Production Worker to join our team at our South Murwillumbah production facility. This position is available for an immediate start, with an initial one-month trial period to assess training and performance.

The primary responsibility of this role is to assist the Production Supervisor, with a particular focus on packaging dried herbs and powders in a fast-paced production environment. While previous experience is highly regarded, it is not essential, as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided. As work is conducted in a food packaging facility, adherence to hygiene and safety standards is required. This includes wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as a hairnet, lab coat, and, in some cases, a face mask when handling specific herbs.

Additionally, this workplace maintains a strict non-smoking policy, which applies to all employees while on-site and during working hours.

The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and the capability to think critically and respond independently while collaborating effectively within a team. This role requires adherence to clear instructions provided by the Production Supervisor and management. Given the nature of the position, candidates must be comfortable performing physically demanding tasks, including regular lifting, prolonged periods of standing, and maintaining efficiency in a high-paced production setting.

This is a casual, in-house role, averaging 14 hours per week, primarily on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Some flexibility with days and hours may be required to accommodate production demands, with the potential for additional hours based on packing requirements. The role is highly focused on a specific aspect of production—packing dried herbs and powders—however, there may be opportunities to transition into other areas of production depending on skills, performance, and business needs.

This is an outcome-driven position, with clear daily packing targets supported by a collaborative and team-oriented work environment. Remuneration is in accordance with the Food, Beverage & Tobacco Award, which offers competitive casual rates.

This role includes an initial one-month trial period, during which training and performance will be assessed to ensure a good fit for the position.

As you can see from the descriptions below, we are putting more value on your qualities and attitude as we believe skills can be learned.

Role & responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this role is the packaging of dried herbs and powders, which includes the following key duties:

Pre-Shift Preparation:

  • Follow the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocol, including the removal of all jewelry, thorough handwashing, securing all hair in a hairnet, and donning a lab coat.

Workspace Setup:

  • Prepare the packing station, ensuring all necessary equipment is set up, including packing tubs, scales, sealers, and exhaust fans.
  • Organize and label packaging materials with batch numbers and best-before dates before commencing production.

Production & Packing:

  • Work efficiently to accurately weigh dried herbs and powders.
  • Pack products into pre-labeled bags, securely seal them, and systematically stack completed packages into storage tubs.
  • Maintainaccuracy and efficiency while meeting daily packing targets.

End-of-Day Pack-Up & Cleaning:

  • Store all equipment properly and clean the workspace and surrounding areas.
  • Transport packed tubs to the warehousing area for storage and perform final weight cross-checks to ensure accuracy.
  • Conduct weekly deep cleaning on Thursday afternoons, including dust removal from the production area, vacuuming, and mopping.

Team Support:

  • Assist team members with general production tasks and additional duties as required to maintain workflow and efficiency.

Skills and qualities:

  • Strong attention to detail – Ensuring accuracy in weighing, packaging, and labeling dried herbs and powders.
  • Efficiency and precision – Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining high standards.
  • Reliability and punctuality – Consistently arriving on time and meeting daily production targets.
  • Positive and proactive attitude – A strong work ethic with a ‘can-do’ approach and a willingness to contribute to team success.
  • Commitment to quality – Working with care and patience to uphold strict hygiene and food safety standards.
  • Adaptability and flexibility – Open to taking on different tasks as required to support the production team.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills – Collaborating effectively with colleagues and following instructions from supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently – Taking initiative and demonstrating foresight in daily tasks.
  • Time management skills – Maintaining workflow efficiency and meeting deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and develop – Open to training and continuously improving skills within the role.
