About the Role

Our client is a leader in independent meat inspection services, ensuring food safety and compliance across multiple locations in Australia. They are committed to maintaining the highest standards of workplace health and safety and are seeking an experienced WHS Manager to take ownership of their Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Management System .

This role will focus on compliance, continuous improvement, and fostering a strong safety culture. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting audits, working closely with HR and training teams, managing safety communications, and overseeing rehabilitation and return-to-work programs.

Key Responsibilities

Oversight of WHS Management System

  • Lead the management and continuous improvement of the WHS Management System.
  • Develop, implement, and review WHS policies, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with national WHS laws and industry regulations.

Development & Management of Audit Schedule

  • Design and execute a structured audit schedule to monitor safety performance across all sites.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Provide reports and recommendations to senior management on safety compliance.

Deliver Site Inspections & Audits

  • Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify hazards and non-compliance issues.
  • Work with operational teams to implement improvements and enforce safety standards.
  • Ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed on time.

Work with HR & Training Managers

  • Collaborate with HR and Training Managers to integrate WHS into employee training and onboarding programs.
  • Support the development of WHS training initiatives to improve safety awareness and compliance.

Rollout Safety Communications, Alerts & Programs

  • Develop and distribute safety alerts, bulletins, and communication materials to keep employees informed of WHS updates.
  • Drive engagement in workplace safety programs and initiatives.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through leadership and visibility.

Oversee Rehabilitation & Return to Work Programs

  • Manage the injury management and return-to-work process for employees.
  • Work with external rehabilitation providers and insurance agencies to facilitate smooth recovery and workplace reintegration.
  • Ensure compliance with injury management and workers' compensation legislation.
What We’re Looking For
  • Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Workplace Health & Safety, Occupational Health, or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience in a WHS leadership role, ideally within food processing, manufacturing, or agriculture.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of WHS legislation, risk assessment, auditing, and injury management.
  • Skills: Excellent analytical, auditing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication: Ability to engage, educate, and influence employees at all levels.
  • Collaboration: Strong team player who can work effectively with HR, Training, and Operations teams.
