About Harbison
Harbison is a charitable, community-owned, not-for-profit organisation that provides residential and non-residential care and support services for aged or disabled people, including a range of support services and systems to assist aged and disabled people to achieve maximum independence and integration within a residential or community setting, education and training of professionals and other care providers, and activities which are incidental or conducive to these objectives.
Currently, Harbison is an approved aged care provider, registered NDIS provider, approved childcare provider, retirement village owner, and one of the largest employers in the Southern Highlands. Harbison is governed by a Board of Directors which appoints a Chief Executive Officer who is delegated with day-to-day responsibility for the organisation.
Primary Purpose of the Role
The role of a personal carer is to provide holistic, high quality and safe care that is aligned to the resident’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural needs and preferences. The role will contribute to the human rights of residents by supporting them to exercise choice and independence, through informed decisionmaking and dignity of risk principles. The role will support activities of daily living and meaningful moments that are person-centred and aligned with the aged care quality and safety standards, and NDIS requirements.
To successfully progress with your application, you must be available to work across the below shifts.
- 6.30 AM - 2.30 PM
- 2.30 PM - 10.30 PM
- 10.30 PM - 6.30 AM
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Delivery of Quality Care
- Practice holistic, high quality, safe, efficient, and effective care (within scope of practice) and assist residents to maintain their independence, and dignity and to meet their physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs.
- Contribute to the human rights of residents by supporting them to exercise choice and independence, through informed decision-making and dignity of risk principles.
- Support care plans in accordance with the individual needs of the resident using the ‘person centred’ approach.
- Involve residents in everyday domestic living e.g., cooking, cleaning, and general laundry.
- Provide a positive mealtime experience by encouraging residents to be involved in the process e.g., using smells, touch, and music to create a social aspect to the mealtimes.
- Engage residents in meaningful occupation and activities.
- Ensure completion of daily documentation and required assessments for residents each shift.
- Contribute to the admissions process by preparing rooms for new residents, and introducing new residents to the home.
- Strive for excellent customer service across the department and within Harbison.
- Complete documentation as per Harbison policies and processes, including daily charting and progress note entries. Any issues relating to the consumer care and services are escalated and reported to the Registered Nurse.
- Support consumers to pursue leisure and wellbeing programs that support their interests and preferences to promote social interaction and wellbeing. Respect the privacy of residents, visitors, and staff.
- Encourage feedback from consumers and their nominated representatives, ensure it is captured in the feedback system.
- Identify, monitor, and escalate to the RN high impact risks including nutrition & hydration risk, choking risk, medication management, pain management, prevention and management of pressure injuries, restrictive practices & behaviour support planning, delirium, sensory loss, complex wounds, diabetes, falls management, palliative care, infections, within scope of the role.

REQUIREMENTS

- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to adapt to changing demands.
- Self-awareness and empathic approach.
- Hold a minimum Certificate III in Aged Care.
- Willingness to attend education sessions in relation to the role.
- Ideally, you have experience in the Aged Care sector; however, this is not essential. Ideally, we seek a strong focus on customer service and care and a "can do" attitude. We would happily support individuals with the right attitude and approach in obtaining the relevant qualifications.
