What does the job look like?
Linfox's Intermodal business unit is looking for an Operations Supervisor to join the team in Cairns, QLD. Reporting to the Cairns Operations Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the rail depot, focusing on planning and execution. Your role will ensure the efficient and effective management of Linfox's rail terminal. Additional responsibilities include shift planning, managing shift changes, and handling incident response. This is a permanent full-time position, working Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Key areas:
- Plan and coordinate train movements, develop shunt coordination plans, and manage container yard operations.
- Supervise a small team of rail yard operators, plan staff rosters, and coordinate operations with the Hook and Pull partner.
- Ensure compliance with road operational processes, legislation, and safety policies, overseeing daily operations and site safety practices.
- Supervise pickups and deliveries, meeting customer expectations and delivery windows.
- Foster a safety culture, monitoring hazards, near-misses, and incidents, and providing coaching for continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring clear communication.
Are you the one?
This operational role requires a supervisor with transport industry experience, thriving in a fast-paced environment and skilled in leadership and decision-making within a complex supply chain environment. You can demonstrate:
- Excellent communication and relationship-building with customers, drivers, and stakeholders, rail industry experience and shunt qualification is highly desirable.
- 2+ years in scheduling/coordination, freight handling (containerised), load restraint, and dangerous goods awareness.
- Skilled in planning and coordinating timely freight delivery, with reporting to managers on performance.
- Strong knowledge of Chain of Responsibility, load restraint, fatigue management, and heavy vehicle regulations.
- Proficient in MS Excel, SharePoint, MT Data systems.
