The Role
The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia's economic and national security landscape for decades to come.
The Sovereign Submarine Program Delivery (SSPD) Branch of the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) seeks an expert, motivated, EL1 Senior Product Verification Inspector to join our Adelaide team responsible for delivering Australia's SSN-AUKUS nuclear-powered submarines. The Senior Product Verification Inspector contributes to assuring the construction of Australia's nuclear submarines, ensuring they meet the exacting standards of the Australian Naval Nuclear Safety Regulator, Royal Australian Navy and our AUKUS partners.
The Senior Product Verification Inspector will lead a team of technical inspectors to assure submarine components, assemblies, units and modules have been manufactured to the product specifications.
About our Team
SSPD is accountable for delivering Australia's SSN-AUKUS class submarines from a new, purpose built submarine construction yard in Osborne, South Australia . This requires identification of the most appropriate program delivery model and construction methodology, defining infrastructure requirements, analysing and modelling existing Australian industry and workforce capability and capacity and undertaking cost estimation for acquiring and sustaining the future Nuclear-Powered Submarine fleet; in consultation with our AUKUS partners.
SSPD consists of the following directorates: Business and Operations, Build, Test and Evaluation, Commercial Management, and Engineering.
Test and Evaluation Directorate of SSPD is responsible for assuring delivery of Australian SSN-AUKUS submarines that meet the approved design safely and efficiently while complying with the cost and schedule agreed with Government. The task is diverse and challenging. The team will assure that each submarine has been constructed, activated and tested in accordance with the design prior to entering Royal Australian Navy service.

The ideal candidate for this role will have extensive experience in ship or submarine construction projects. They will bring the following attributes and skills to the role:
  • Significant material quality inspector experience in disciplines such as welding, coatings, dimensional control or non-destructive testing.
  • The ability to lead and implement a competency based team development program to qualify build inspectors for technical competency certification;
  • The ability to actively support a team based performance culture with the ability to work effectively as part of a team or autonomously as required;
  • An outcome focused mindset in order to achieve results and be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail;
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate and collaborate in order to support the cultivation of productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
