The key duties of the position include

As an experienced Senior Investigator you will play a pivotal role in leading initial inquiries, early intervention, compliance or other activities as required for investigation and enforcement action in the superannuation and insurance sectors.
  • Sydney and Melbourne location preferred - all locations considered
  • $147,074 - $162,634 + 15.4% Superannuation

The team
ASIC's Enforcement and Compliance Group (ECG) is responsible for the conduct of ASIC's initial inquiries, compliance and enforcement work across all sectors excluding markets. The ECG comprises Investigation and Enforcement Action, Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance, Enforcement Services and Enforcement Policy and Practice.
The Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance function is focused on the management of referral processes, the conduct of initial inquiries to assess potential misconduct, compliance activity, and referral of misconduct to other enforcement teams for enforcement action.
The role
As a Senior Investigator , you will act for ASIC in in the identification and investigation of misconduct in the superannuation and insurance sectors.
You will be responsible for:
  • Identifying relevant matters and accelerating ASIC's understanding of misconduct.
  • Collaborating with regulatory teams to aid in the early identification of serious or systemic misconduct within the superannuation and insurance sectors.
  • Identifying appropriate regulatory responses to misconduct in line with ASIC's enforcement and strategic priorities.
  • Planning and managing the conduct of early inquiries and investigations in the superannuation and insurance sectors.
  • Scoping the inquiries required to understand the misconduct in more detail.
  • Employing a range of evidence gathering techniques including issuing statutory notices, interviewing witnesses and undertaking document review using electronic tools.

About you
With your significant experience in a senior role that involved investigation, case management, project management or detection of misconduct in the superannuation and/or insurance sectors, you will have the technical expertise to oversee key compliance and investigation matters ensuring impactful outcomes. Your experience includes strong writing and drafting skills and the ability to communicate verbally in a clear and persuasive manner.
You will also demonstrate:
  • Understanding of the law, practice and policy relating to the Corporations Act, Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993 (Cth), Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth), ASIC Act and other relevant financial services legislation.
  • Strong analytical skills including experience analysing large amounts of data and the use of ASIC data systems and information-gathering sources and techniques.
  • Tertiary qualifications in commerce, accounting, criminology, law, or other relevant discipline.
