Position overview
The Technical Lead Water Accounting works within the Bureau's Commonwealth Water Partnerships Team. The team is dedicated to increasing the value and impact the Bureau delivers to Australia's Water Sector, with a particular focus on supporting our partner agencies, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), the Murray–Darling Basin Authority and other government agencies.
The Technical Lead Water Accounting coordinates the development, delivery and continual improvement of the National Water Account, in partnership with the Bureau's Climate and Water team. This combines the science of hydrology with the rigour of financial accounting to provide a detailed analysis of the total water resource, water available for abstraction, and actual abstraction of water in significant water regions across the country. Production of the National Water Account involves collaboration across a range of water utilities, local government, irrigation corporations as well as Commonwealth Government departments and agencies. The role also supports broader Water Section and Bureau priorities as required.
The Bureau has been responsible for delivering the National Water Account since 2007. Since then, there have been fundamental changes in the water information ecosystem and the successful candidate will also lead a refresh of the National Water Account in line with customer feedback and in collaboration with the Australian Bureau of Statistics and support from DCCEEW.
The successful candidate will contribute as part of a multi-disciplinary team and collaborate with delivery partners and customers to develop and implement impactful solutions for the Water Sector.
