The Opportunity
The Principal Planner - Asset Strategy provides high-level expertise in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the department’s Asset Management system. Working closely with key stakeholders, the role ensures that asset management solutions align with departmental priorities and international standards. Key responsibilities include leading innovative strategies, evaluating and improving asset management practices, and managing risk. The Principal Planner will drive change initiatives, prepare reports for senior stakeholders, and contribute to the department’s strategic asset management plan while leveraging emerging technologies to enhance asset management practices.

You are a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in delivering asset management advice and services that align with organisational priorities. You bring strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for innovative solutions.

Your strengths will include:

  • Extensive experience in providing customer-focused, strategic asset management advice.
  • Skilled in working under broad direction to set goals, standards, and priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present to senior audiences and technical staff.
  • Strong knowledge of strategic asset management, including national initiatives and emerging trends.
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities, including the development of innovative solutions based on complex data analysis.

Qualifications/Experience
For appointment to the role at the PO4 classification level, a degree in Engineering providing eligibility for membership as a Professional Engineer of the Institution of Engineers, Australia is required, or a Tertiary qualification in Planning.

For appointment to the role at the ASO7 classification level, tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Asset Management, Commerce, Business, or other relevant discipline will be highly regarded.

Special Conditions
The successful candidate will be required to provide a National Police Check (NPC) prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.

Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.

Remuneration
PO4 - $110,696 to $120,470 pa + superannuation.
ASO7 - $108,109 to $116,864 pa + superannuation.
