Who are we
Handball Australia is the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) for Handball in Australia being recognised by the International Handball Federation (IHF), the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC). We administer and promote programs for all versions of the Sport - Indoor, Beach and Wheelchair.
As Chair you will be a part of an exciting period of transformation where we are looking to expand participation in the sport and build the sport’s profile.
What we are looking for
The Handball Australia Board is calling for application for Chair position (two-year term) for election at the Handball Australia 2025 AGM in March.
We are looking for a Chair who has a passion for the sport and is excited by the prospect of contributing to the strategic direction of Handball in Australia.
The successful candidate will have experience in one (or more) of following areas:
- Leadership
- Sports Management, Law and Governance
- People & Culture, Human Resources & Change Management
- Financial and Budget Management
- Stakeholder Engagement and Communications
- Marketing and Media (All Forms)
Other desirable skills or experience that would be beneficial:
- Experience in a not for profit, volunteer-based sport organisation, and knowledge of the laws and legislation
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of the constitution, rules, by-laws, policies and procedures of the board
- Strong understanding of the Corporations law and ASIC requirements of a Company Limited by Guarantee
- Expertise in finance, governance, business and communications
- Sound skills in applying risk managements principles and understanding the political sporting landscape
- Experience in facilitating decision making processes
- Ability to create, foster and sustain positive relationships
- Integrity, honesty and trustworthiness
What is the expected commitment from a Handball Australia Director?
Board meetings (a total of eleven meetings per annum, all virtually, with an annual planning conference (physical) held in Sydney.
This is a volunteer role.
