The role :

Technical Specialist Underground, PNG

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is currently seeking applications for a motivated Technical Specialist for Underground products who works directly at our customer’s mine site in PNG reporting directly to Sandvik Operations Manager PNG.

The role is responsible for working with multiple levels within the customer organization focusing on improving the performance and integrity of the Equipment. The Technical Specialist represents Sandvik and as such will assist in liaising between Sandvik and the Customer to achieve a high level of Customer Service and Support. Additionally, you will work within the Customer’s Maintenance Management Team to improve Sandvik Equipment performance.

The Technical Specialist role will represent Sandvik on our customer site, as well as be liaising daily with the Customers maintenance management, supervision, planning and technical staff, coordinating Sandvik parts, Technical Support, CSC Repairs, and any additional Field Service support resources in line with the Customers maintenance requirements.

This role is 3 weeks (with 12 hours per day) in PNG and 2 weeks off as FIFO arrangement. All accommodation and meals are provided as benefit.

To succeed in this role, you are expected to :

  • Proactively assist the customer maintenance department to maintain a high level of availability and reliability for the customer fleets and assist in ensuring that they remain operating at high production levels.
  • Transfer technical knowledge to familiarise / develop / upskill Sandvik and Customers personnel through hands on and / or classroom training.
  • Resolve technical and operational issues on Sandvik equipment, liaise with regional Sandvik technical support to develop and implement product improvements.
  • Assist in the implementation of known factory improvements as required through equipment improvement information.
  • Provide feedback to Operations Manager, Technical Support Managers or Factory Product Engineering to enable improvements to the equipment or its operation.
  • Liaise with Sandvik Lae branch and logistics to support off-site services and logistics requirements.

Your profile

Trade or Tertiary Qualifications in Heavy Equipment are mandatory Minimum post-trade experience of 5 to 10 years. Experience working with Sandvik Underground Equipment (Minimum 5 years) Have a good understanding of Equipment operations Must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and have report writing skills Demonstrate the ability to read both hydraulic and electric schematic diagrams Highly proficient in the diagnosis and adjustment of Electrical Systems, Software installation, Can Bus Controls systems Ability to perform under pressure, respond quickly to requests and achieve results within given times Strong customer service focus and motivation and determination to achieve targets and goals. Proactive, self-motivated and demonstrate initiative. Experience working in remote isolated environments. Strong and proven safety culture Must have a ‘Positive Can do’ attitude
