The role involves assisting in the development and review of policy, procedures and learning resources, and the provision of ad hoc policy and technical advice, relating to First Nations engagement and partnering. The role also contributes to the development, review and monitoring of departmental policies and procedures to ensure consistency and support meeting our native title, cultural heritage and human rights legislative requirements. It will include participating in engagements with First Nations partners and building productive relationships within the department and across government.
Your Contribution
- Participate in a small multi-disciplinary team to develop, review and implement policies and procedures relating to First Nations rights and interests, engagement and partnerships.
- Provide advice to QPWS&P and other divisions staff on First Nations engagement and partnering, and other Partnerships Branch policies and procedures.
- Research and analyse information, and prepare correspondence, reports, briefings, project plans, communication strategies and materials and submissions regarding the development, progress and delivery of key projects and issues.
- Establish and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with First Nations people and representative organisations, key stakeholders including QPWS&P regions, other divisions, state and local governments and industry stakeholders relating to our work program and provide advice as required.

- Sound knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their organisations, and a demonstrated knowledge in engagement and respectful communication processes.
- Knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge, of policy, legislation and frameworks as they relate to the rights and aspirations of First Nations people and protected area co-stewardship.
- Interpersonal, problem solving and negotiation skills and the ability to successfully initiate and implement change and continuous improvement in the workplace.
