The Opportunity
As part of the Cyber Risk and Resilience team the Security Automation Engineer is responsible for enabling the Monash Cyber Operation teams protecting our networks, systems, and data using industry-leading technology to combat advanced attackers through the design, engineering, deployment, and maintenance of security orchestration and automation tools.
Leveraging diverse technologies and an automation-first approach, the Automation Engineer strives to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy of security controls within the Monash environment, with a strong focus on speed and stability, while collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to contribute to the continual improvement of security measures and the resolution of security-related incidents.
The Security Automation Engineer offers actionable intelligence and advice to incident response teams to remediate current and prevent future cyber security incidents and operates with excellence and expertise in process and judgement to provide sound and timely advice and support to clients, staff and other stakeholders.
To be successful candidates will have :
- Highly developed technical understanding of Internet security issues, automation or software engineering technologies, cloud architectures, and threat landscape concepts
- Experience architecting, automating, maintaining, and securing Cloud Computing Platforms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Experience analysing security telemetry for signs of malicious activity and working with Security Information Event Management (SIEM) products for both detection and investigation purposes
- Sound knowledge of ICT risk and security practices, networks, computer operating systems and application platforms
- High-level project management skills with a record of successfully coordinating and / or supporting projects through to completion in accordance with agreed standards, timeframes and budgets
- Knowledge of specific operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses and cybersecurity and privacy principles
- Security-related certificate(s) such as (CISSP, GIAC, vendor-specific etc); and ITIL Foundation certification or above
- Demonstrated ability to scripting / coding experience with one or more languages - Python, Rust, PowerShell, and / or C# experience a plus
