About the Role

The Workplace Health and Safety Advisor will manage all aspects of Workplace Health and Safety across the global business. This is a broad role within a fast-growing company.

Reporting to the CEO/GM, the emphasis in this role will be on implementing WHS systems and processes within the business that become a normal part of the day-to-day functions at Leighton O’Brien.

This key role is accountable for ensuring that stringent safety standards are maintained across all sites. Maintaining an effective risk management system, coordinating training requirements,

leading the emergency response for our head office and conducting compliance audits. In this critical role, you will drive a consistent and robust approach to management practice and performance across Leighton O’Brien, to facilitate the health and wellbeing of our workers, protect the environment from harm, and to ensure that Leighton O’Brien remains compliant with its legislative obligations.

As part of this role, you will manage injured workers and the return-to-work processes and be skilled in risk management and prevention.

As HSE Advisor, you will be expected to be on-site, travel regularly and be available after hours for any unforeseen circumstances. Due to the nature of the business, the HSE Advisor will be required to work outside the normal working hours to accommodate employees travelling outside of Australia.

The key responsibilities:

  • Promote and drive the desired safety culture, values and expected behaviour.
  • Develop, implement and review occupational health and safety plans.
  • Develop business relationships to engage multiple stakeholders.
  • Partner with Site Managers and front-line Supervisors and provide subject matter advice and
  • guidance.
  • Partner with Engineering to update, assign and review applicable safety and technical training
  • platforms.
  • Mentor and coach site leadership to manage and implement safety programs.
  • Implement, endorse and comply with best practice safety processes, procedures and systems.
  • Build safety awareness and compliance levels across the workforce.
  • Conduct workplace observations, formal inspections and audits, analysis of performance data and
  • evaluate proposed changes to identify and record potential hazards.
  • Development of risk registers that identify hazards and risk levels.
  • Conduct structured investigations and analysis of incidents, including developing
  • recommendations to improve performance and prevent incident recurrence.
  • Coordinate WH&S training for relevant staff in areas such as incident investigations, risk
  • assessments and internal audits.
  • Ensure Injuries and incidents are investigated, and corrective actions implemented.
  • Support Injured workers and handle all return-to-work responsibilities.
  • Ensure safety targets are being met.
  • Administration of HSE data management systems.
  • Represent the organisation during major safety audits.
  • Maintain the company’s online HSE Management system.
  • Lead monthly safety meetings and presentations to management.
  • Maintain the company's online learning management system.

Requirements:

  • Must have 5+ years of previous proven experience in Occupational Hygiene & Ergonomics.
  • Relevant certification in Occupational Health and Safety preferred but not required
  • Previous experience in building, implementing and maintaining HSE systems in accordance with ISO standards.
