The University of Wollongong (UOW) is entering a defining chapter. We are seeking a highly strategic and influential leader to join our executive team as Vice-President (Strategy & Executive Affairs). This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring UOW’s continued impact, overseeing key areas of governance, strategic priorities, and executive operations at the highest level.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the Vice-President (Strategy & Executive Affairs) will:

  • Shape and drive UOW’s strategic framework, ensuring alignment across all portfolios and responsiveness to sector-wide opportunities.
  • Provide high-level insights and advice to the Vice-Chancellor, Chancellor, and Council on key strategic and governance matters.
  • Oversee the operations of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, ensuring effective executive coordination and delivery of priorities.
  • Lead UOW’s engagement with government, industry, and key stakeholders, strengthening the University’s influence and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and alignment across Council and the Senior Executive.
  • Oversee the University’s governance, compliance, and policy frameworks, ensuring effectiveness and integrity.
  • Lead government and external relations, positioning UOW as a key voice in national and global higher education discussions.
  • Ensure the seamless coordination of executive operations and decision-making processes.
  • Foster a strong and inclusive organisational culture, ensuring alignment with UOW’s values.

What You Bring

We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking leader with:

  • Extensive senior executive experience, preferably within higher education or similarly complex environments.
  • A proven ability to drive institutional strategy, shape organisational culture, and navigate high-level stakeholder relationships with influence and impact.
  • Deep expertise in higher education governance, public policy, and regulatory frameworks.
    Extensive experience in government and external relations, with a demonstrated ability to position institutions as influential voices in national and global higher education policy discussions.
  • A strong track record of leading strategic initiatives that enhance institutional effectiveness and long-term sustainability. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and leadership skills with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
  • A commitment to equity, diversity, and sustainability as core institutional values.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in governance, public administration, or management (or equivalent experience).
