We are seeking a motivated and proactive Junior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic in-house legal team at Retail Food Group, based on the beautiful Gold Coast! The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Junior Legal Counsel to provide essential legal support and guidance to RFG’s franchise business stream. This role is critical to the delivery of timely and effective provision of legal services, encompassing franchise partner lifecycle matters, dispute resolution, legal compliance, and risk management. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, solutions-driven legal professional with a foundational understanding of franchising, corporate law, and the legal landscape impacting the franchising sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support to RFG’s domestic franchise business stream by addressing its legal requirements, providing accurate and commercially sound legal advice and offering recommendations.
- Assist with managing and resolving disputes relating to franchising, leasing and commercial law.
- Perform legal research tasks and provide support and assistance to senior colleagues on various legal matters.
- Draft and issue franchise compliance documentation and communication to achieve resolutions aimed at supporting franchisee compliance .
- Assist in reviewing and advising on communications with internal and external stakeholders, including marketing campaigns and new product innovation to ensure legal compliance.
- Stay up to date with legal developments, particularly those relevant to the business, including the Franchising Code of Conduct, Competition and Consumer Law, retail leases legislation, the Food Standards Code, and other industry-specific regulations.
- Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the department’s record-keeping databases, ensuring all documents and records are current and easily accessible.
Experience & Competencies:
- This role is open to recent Graduates or those with 1-2 years of experience.
- A current QLD law society membership and a current practising certificate is preferred, where applicable.
- Proactive in taking initiative to enhance productivity, efficiency, and risk mitigation.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and accountability in legal practice.
- Strong foundation of legal principles and franchising law.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite; experience with database & record-keeping – with particular in Salesforce.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to apply legal knowledge and adapt to new areas of law and different business practices.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to apply legal knowledge to solve complex business problems.
- Basic mathematical and financial analysis skills.
