Summary:
Crane operators in the construction industry operate mechanical cranes to move building materials and other heavy loads around a construction site. They are responsible for conducting safety checks on all equipment, adhering to safety protocols and regulations, and assessing loads to determine appropriate crane operation methods.
Responsibilities:
- Operate crane equipment to lift, move and position large building materials
- Conduct equipment safety checks and ensure all safety procedures and regulations are followed
- Assess loads and determine the best crane operation methods for the task at hand
- Communicate with site team members to determine lift locations and ensure that loads are properly attached to the crane
- Maintain logbooks and records of equipment use
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel
- Troubleshoot and repair minor equipment issues as needed
- Ensure that all crane equipment is properly maintained and stored when not in use
Qualifications:
- Experience operating mechanical cranes
- Valid crane operator's license or certification
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Good understanding of safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
