Introduction

Established in 2009, CareerTrackers is a national non-profit with the goal of creating pathways and support systems for Indigenous young adults to attend and graduate from university, with high marks, industry experience and bright professional futures. The organisation creates multi-year internships opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students. CareerTrackers Interns and Alumni represent a generation of Indigenous professionals who are changing the landscape of not only corporate Australia but of the wider Australian society.

The Young Indigenous Women in Stem Academy is a national program for young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women from high school through to higher education, tertiary pathways and graduate employment. This program is delivered in partnership with CSIRO and proudly funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
CareerTrackers supports the Academy participants from year 12 through to tertiary studies and employment providing opportunities to fast track their careers in STEM

The purpose of this role:

The Program Manager leads stakeholder relationships across industry to facilitate the Young Indigenous Women in STEM Academy for aspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students.

The role will work closely with CSIRO to assist in program design and in the transitioning participants from high school through to tertiary studies. The Program Manager will work with CareerTrackers advisors across the different regions to support and engage female Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students within CareerTrackers who are studying a STEM degree.

Within the role you will support young First Nations women to:

  • have access to CareerTrackers internships during semester breaks, facilitating work experiences in STEM related roles
  • have access to STEM opportunities and scholarships, assist with applications and submissions
  • facilitate regular STEM webinars/engagement events for academy participants
  • connect the academy women with a mentor to support their career development and aspirations

This person will be responsible for:

  • Lead the delivery of the program in partnership with CSIRO
  • Manage a small team (1 Advisor) to support the delivery of the Young Indigenous Women in STEM Academy
  • Working alongside CSIRO Academic Coordinators
  • Design and manage implementation of the academy program within CareerTrackers
  • Maintain accurate records of academy participants
  • Facilitating a smooth transition for young women graduating from high school into tertiary studies
  • Schedule bi-monthly online engagement events for university cohort and organise guest speakers and agenda for events
  • Assist in updating/creating resources to support program delivery
  • Receive and approve STEM brokerage funding applications
  • Supporting other CareerTrackers programs and projects

Mentoring Program

The program manager will also:

  • Lead the academy mentoring program, including design and recruitment of female industry mentors from alumni and corporate partners
  • Host online briefing events for mentors and mentees and assist in updating of mentor and mentee briefing resources
  • Create mentoring resources for mentor/mentee catch ups
  • Assist mentors with student engagement and follow up with advisors for any student

Other

  • Support in the delivery of STEM workshops during CareerTrackers key learning and development programs: Program Day and LDI.
  • Support of other CareerTrackers projects and priorities.

Skills And Experiences

About You: You are passionate about supporting and empowering First Nations young people to be the best that they can be, and have a strong ability to connect with and support stakeholders. You have a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and communities. You are collaborative, trustworthy, and an excellent communicator, able to manage relationships at all levels and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

Please note - it is a requirement of this program and associated partnerships that this role is filled by an Aboriginal or/and Torres Strait Islander person.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong relationships within the First Nations community or the ability to build such relationships based on previous experiences.
  • Experience working with and for First Nations peoples in relevant sectors.
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree (relevant work experience if no Bachelor's degree).
  • Willingness to obtain a current Working with Children Check prior to commencement.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and facilitating skills and leadership development.
  • Proficiency in using CRM software to manage business relationships.
