Trainee Curtin Maker
Factory Blinds is creating a new position for a trainee curtain maker. The position is specifically directed towards recent school leavers offering them an opportunity to learn a skill in the window furnishings industry
This advertised position is surplus to our current needs. For any business to succeed there must be a skilled workforce available and if businesses do not invest in youth and offer training then we have no-one else to blame but ourselves when there are no skilled employees available. There are no recognised TAFE training courses available in Tasmania so we will teach you.
The position offers a 12-month traineeship in curtain making with no promise of future or ongoing employment at the end of the training period. During the training period you will work with a team of experienced curtain makers and you will learn on-the-job training in how to make curtains and the possibility of other soft furnishings.
You will learn to measure, cut and sew fabrics and turn them into quality fashionable curtains for our many customers across northern Tasmania. You will learn how to identify the different yarns and fabrics, how to best manage them to make the best finished products and you will also get the opportunity to install the finished product in the customer's home.

As this is a newly created position that is surplus to our needs I envisage the position will be full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm. Overtime opportunities will be limited. Pay rates will be determined by age with employment governed by Fair Work Australia award MA000010 Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2020.
