About the Role

As the Director of Product Development for Loam Bio, you will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of research and development activities for new microbial products that enable sustainable agriculture. Based in Orange, NSW, and focused on key farming regions across Australia, you will play a critical role in advancing product development by managing research teams, conducting laboratory and fieldwork, and collaborating with marketing and sales teams.

This role requires a high level of organization, communication, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to bridge technical and commercial strategies. You will drive the development of innovative products that support Loam’s short- and long-term goals, enabling sustainable farming practices and delivering real-world impact.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership and team management to achieve Loam’s goals.
  • Manage a product development pipeline, guiding products to successful launch.
  • Communicate product iteration and development strategies with research and commercial teams.
  • Oversee product stage-gate meetings, including preparing documentation, facilitating discussions, and recording decisions.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor budgets, resourcing plans, and project timelines.
  • Ensure R&D activities are accurately documented and stored in appropriate repositories, including intellectual property development.
  • Coordinate the preparation of technical dossiers and field reports to a standard suitable for peer-reviewed publication.
  • Engage with farmers on technical details to refine product concepts and application methods.
  • Contribute to a positive, constructive team environment, supporting the wider team in achieving shared goals.
  • Conduct performance reviews within Loam’s annual cycle, highlighting opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Help staff identify and pursue opportunities for professional development.

Requirements

  • You hold a degree in Agriculture, Plant Science, Microbiology, or Soil Science, with 5–10 years of industry experience.
  • You demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, thriving in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • You have a proven ability to rapidly synthesize and analyze complex data from multiple sources.
  • You bring a track record of successfully launching products and leading teams to deliver results while building and improving processes.
  • You are committed to safe working practices and ensuring the safety of those around you.
  • You are flexible and ready to travel domestically and internationally as required.
