About the RoleWe are seeking a passionate and impact-oriented Head of Sustainability who will play a vital role in shaping SML’s sustainability agenda, driving positive change, and ensuring long-term value creation. In this rewarding role, you'll work alongside senior leaders and subject matter experts to foster an understanding of sustainability opportunities and deliver meaningful improvement programs aligned with sustainability objectives. Your ability to connect, inspire, and deliver will enhance long term shareholder value, uplift our ESG performance, and engage the Sydney Markets community in creating a sustainable future.
This role requires a visionary leader who can integrate environmental responsibility into the core business strategy while fostering a culture of sustainability throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities- Environmental Sustainability: Manage environmental impact areas including waste management, resource consumption, renewable energy integration and carbon emissions.
- Strategy Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy that aligns with the organisation’s overall goals and objectives. Assess potential sustainability risks, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor emerging trends and regulations in the sustainability and ESG landscape.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal and external stakeholders including tenants, employees, customers and regulatory bodies to promote transparency and address sustainability concerns.
- Change management & training: Bring stakeholders on the journey of change and ensure promotion of sustainability best practice company, operation and community wide. Develop and implement training programs to educate employees on sustainability practices and the importance of environmental stewardship.
- Reporting and Compliance: Responsible for the end-to-end preparation and publication of sustainability reports, ensuring compliance and transparency with relevant regulations and industry standards. Responsible for collating and reporting on performance metrics, setting measurable targets for sustainability initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability.
- Program & People Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of sustainability programs and projects, including ownership of key supplier contracts and management of budgets and resources. Coach and manage our dedicated team.
- Research and Innovation: Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in sustainability. Identify opportunities for innovation and partnerships that enhance sustainability efforts.
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Sustainability or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience on successful delivery of major sustainability projects and strategy.
- Waste management and recycling best practice background.
- Exceptional communication skills and proven ability to influence stakeholders to drive organisational and behavioural change.
- Detailed knowledge of ESG reporting guidelines and obligations, with the ability to articulate requirements for different audiences.
- Accountable, organised and manages multiple timelines and deliverables.
