The Opportunity

Orrcon Steel is seeking a Customer Service Officer to join our Sales team based in Cairns. Orrcon Steel is a manufacturer of steel tube and pipe, as well as a leading Australian steel distributor with nationally recognized brands. Our Cairns location is a busy retail branch, where you’ll quickly become a valued member of the team due to your product knowledge, expert advice, and knack for finding clever solutions that delight customers while continuing to strengthen and grow our business. Whether you have a background in customer service and sales or have been involved with building materials from the production, design, and fabrication side, we are eager to leverage your transferable skills and passion for customer success.

What Will You Do?

In this customer-facing opportunity, you will leverage your technical aptitude and customer service skills to build strong partnerships with our valued customers. You’ll be:

  • engage with customers face-to-face, via phone, and email, addressing product technical queries and providing key recommendations to ensure quality finished products for our customers
  • use your strong problem solving skills to prepare and enter customer orders accurately into our operating system, ensuring all product and fabrication specifications and parameters are met
  • support the external sales teams and branch by offering insights and assisting in the preparation of quotes and proposals
  • collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (operations and warehouse; logistics and supply partners) striving to exceed expectations
  • work with your manager and team to identify cost efficiencies and improve the overall customer experience

As a self-motivated, quick thinker, you adapt quickly and can juggle multiple tasks at any given time. You thrive in a busy, supportive team environment. You will bring:

  • a strong customer focus with the ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently
  • a proactive approach to building constructive and effective relationships
  • strong computer/systems skills – we use SAP, and experience with this software would be advantageous
  • experience or exposure to technical drawings, drafting, building estimating, or a keen interest and willingness to learn
  • high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
