Description:

The Community Engagement unit sets and drives the strategic direction for community engagement and education in QFD. The team is responsible for providing strategy, policies, and resources to ensure a contemporary and consistent approach to community engagement and education programs, such as: Fire Ed; Fight Fire Fascination; Road, Attitudes and Action Planning; SafeHome, and will work in conjunction with key stakeholders to ensure Queensland communities are engaged in a meaningful way about fire safety, and other matters relevant to QFD through designing and facilitating education and training programs to build community capability to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergency events.

Reporting to the Manager, you will be a key member of the team, contributing to the functions of safety education and awareness initiatives and programs. You will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring a range of activities and functions to support the development of processes and delivery of the RAAP program. You will provide secretariate functions to working groups, and administration and project support to ensure the strategic coordination, compliance of reporting governance standards, and responsibilities and timeframes meet effective service delivery and business objectives.

About Us

The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.

The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Services Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.

The QFD is an organisation that is committed to reframing the department's relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through activities identified in the QFD Reframing the Relationship Plan, contributing to Closing the Gap outcomes and building our cultural capability.

Your key accountabilities

Responsibilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Provide project and administrative support in the development and review of policy, frameworks and programs, and any associated tasks to ensure quality outcomes are delivered.
  • Provide secretariat support to committees and working groups by preparing agendas, recording and circulation of minutes and follow up on actions and decisions.
  • Manage and assist with procurement processes and the acquittal of grant funding, ensuring compliance of governance standards and team members are aware of their responsibilities and timeframes to meet reporting requirements.
  • Identify and manage the coordination of applicably trained QFD personnel to deliver presentation and awareness sessions to ensure quality service delivery is achieved in compliance with departmental policy and procedures.
  • Assist in the research, preparation and review of reports, briefing notes, and submissions to inform development of a formal approach to strategic growth of RAAP program delivery in accordance with departmental requirements.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders relating to various program initiatives to ensure consideration of issues and delivery of positive outcomes.
  • Identify information needs in relation to the implementation of the program and business improvement initiatives, and provide advice about the progress of activities and milestones to meet program objectives.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, policies and procedures, ensuring content and information is available in support of proactive service delivery.
