Join Northern Health in the role of Director- Lived Experience and lead our dynamic Lived Experience Team within the Mental Health Division.

We're looking for an experienced leader who can harness the power of lived experience to shape and transform mental health services in Melbourne’s north.

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital.

Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern. Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles. We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.

Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.

About the Role:

You will leverage your significant management experience to provide professional leadership to a Lived Experience Workforce within the Mental Health Division and across Northern Health. Work closely with the Lived Experience Leadership, Operational Directors, Program Managers and Professional Leads within the Mental Health Division as well as Divisional Directors and Operational Directors across Northern Health.

You will ensure that the Consumer and Carer perspective is heard and that Lived Experience Services are patient centred and delivered effectively and efficiently to ensure the best clinical outcomes across the continuum of care.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A personal lived experience of mental illness and accessing mental health services or a personal lived experience as a carer of someone who has/is experiencing mental illness and accessing mental health services (inclusive of substance use and addiction).
  • Prior experience (minimum 7 years total) in a consumer/carer lived experience role in a public area mental health service or organization.
  • A minimum 2-3 years in a leadership position and prior experience in people management.
  • Sound understanding of public mental health, Mental Health & Wellbeing Act 2022 & the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
  • Professional development/training relevant to the consumer/carer workforce (i.e. Intentional Peer Support).
