While there are no mandatory conditions or qualifications, ideally you will be studying towards an undergraduate (i.e. advanced diploma) or graduate degree in electrical engineering or a related field, such as electrical and renewable power.
You will need a passion to learn, or you may already know about, electrical safety principles of electrical equipment, evaluating test reports and equipment for compliance with Australian Standards.
You'll also need to:
- undertake an objective and systematic approach in providing technical advice regarding electrical equipment safety
- achieve results by contributing to technical research and related activities and seeking feedback and guidance from your supervisor
- confidently present messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner, listen carefully to others and check to ensure their views have been understood, and negotiate to identify stakeholder expectations and concerns
- build and sustain positive relationships with team members, be responsive to changes in client needs and expectations, work collaboratively with others and treat people with respect and courtesy
- take personal responsibility for meeting objectives and progressing work, showing initiative and doing what's required, and act professionally at all times by working in line with organisational processes and legal and public policy constraints.
