Position Description

The Senior Payroll Officer/HR will oversee all payroll functions and manage various HR responsibilities, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee compensation while fostering a positive workplace culture. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in payroll administration, a deep understanding of HR policies, and exceptional organisational skills.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Management:

• Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies.

• Prepare and process weekly payroll, pay runs, reporting, and timecard data integrity analysis to ensure compliance with awards, agreements, policies, and legislation

• Calculate and process payments for backpays, adjustments, leave, WorkCover, terminations, redundancies, and long service leave reconciliations.

• Manage month-end payroll requirements, including superannuation, payroll tax, deductions, and reporting within required timeframes.

• Maintain payroll systems and data records, including employee master files, leave management, register maintenance, sickness and overtime reports, contracts, awards,.

• Interpret and provide advice to employees on salaries, entitlements, leave, and general conditions of employment in line with employment contracts, Enterprise Agreements, legislation, policies, and procedures.

• Conduct regular audits and reconciliations of payroll data, preparing detailed reports for management.

• Ensure compliance with payroll-related tax obligations and stay updated on changes in tax laws.

• Lead the implementation and optimization of payroll systems, providing training on Employment Hero for new employees.

• Manage high-volume, end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring seamless pay cycles.

• Assist with payroll system implementations and process improvements.

HR Functions:

• Support recruitment initiatives, collaborating with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and develop job descriptions.

• Oversee onboarding processes in collaboration with the recruitment team, ensuring compliance and a smooth transition for new hires.

• Develop employee engagement strategies and support performance review processes.

Strategic Collaboration:

• Work closely with the accounting, administrative, and management teams to align payroll budgets and financial reporting.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements within payroll and HR functions, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency.

Requirements

• Strong attention to detail.

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• 5-7 years of experience in payroll processing and HR administration.

• Extensive experience with timesheet management, particularly in project-related payroll.

• Proficiency in payroll systems and HR software—experience with Employment Hero is highly desirable.

• Solid experience in end-to-end payroll processing.

• Strong problem-solving skills for handling investigations and escalations.

• Ability to navigate complex payroll situations effectively.
