About the role:You will be part of a dynamic and inclusive business enterprises team providing opportunities for people with disabilities to be employed alongside other skilled team members, to produce high-quality restaurant service. The Sous Chef alongside the Head Chef and Supervisors support the business as part of the wider retail and tourism portfolio.
The Sous Chef effectively demonstrates experience and knowledge in commercial cookery to achieve business outcomes in a consistent; high quality standard to exceed customer satisfaction. The role will support the Head Chef in aspects of kitchen management, including ordering, production schedules, budgeting, training, menu creation and supervising kitchen staff.
Key Responsibilities:- Plan and prioritise customer orders ensuring meals were delivered to the customer table in reasonable timeframes
- Effectively fulfil the day to day operations of the kitchen
- Effectively lead, inspire and develop a diverse team to achieve business outcomes
- Contribute to the menu planning process, estimated food requirements, ordering and costings
- Adhered to food safety, quality and hygiene practices and procedures
- Assisting in Facilitating positive team relationships that facilitated cooperation and collaboration, reflecting our values and producing effective team results

- Appropriate tertiary trade qualification in Commercial Cookery with experience in a similar role
- Supervisory skills with a demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and train a small team
- Willingness to work with and support the Head Chef and Coordinator Retail and Tourism
- Ability to operate commercial equipment such as mixers, slicers, steamers, fryers and ovens
- Demonstrated passion for quality food and presentation
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards and WHS requirements
- Flexibility to work a range of shifts as per hospitality industry requirements, including weekends
- A high level of physical fitness to meet the manual handling requirements of the position
- Effective verbal and written communication and ability to adapt to individual needs
- Effective problem solving and technical skills to solve maintenance and customer matters
- Sound organisational skills and ability to prioritise work of a small team
- A practical understanding of food safety and WHS requirements
- A demonstrated commitment to Aruma’s Code of Conduct
- A current Australian driver’s license
- Have NDIS Worker Screening Check and Police Check clearance OR be willing to complete
- Have a current First aid and CPR Certificate OR be willing to complete
Nice to have’s OR Desirable
- Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate
- Barista Certificate and/or experience
- Experience working with people with disabilities.
