We currently have an opportunity available for a passionate individual to join our team as an Indigenous Employment Officer to join the team. This is a 6 month full-time, fixed-term and will be based in our Coffs Harbour office . Regular travel across the region will be required.
The Role - A Day in the Life of an Indigenous Employment Officer
As an Indigenous Employment Officer you will be responsible for working closely with internal staff and external stakeholders to increase the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the labour market. This will include the engagement of Employers, Employer Groups, Training and Community organisations to promote services and successful achieve sustainable employment outcomes.
Your Key Responsibilities will include;
- Engage with the sites in the nominated Region to support and engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including strategies to overcome barriers to training and employment
- Identify and support appropriate employment opportunities for customers through canvassing of employers and other interventions in the labour market in partnership with the Business Advisor team and Managers
- Engage customers in skill development programs
- Facilitation of group information and engagement sessions
- Achieve set employment and training outcome targets
- Manage your own caseload of customers
- Achieve agreed objectives and targets
- Provide ongoing mentoring and support services to Aboriginal clients placed into employment and/or training
Criteria for Success
- Aboriginality (proof of Aboriginality required). This position is identified and exempted under section 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
- Current Drivers Licence and willingness to travel throughout the allocated region
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the Employment Services Industry
- Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills
- Experience in the marketing and placement of long-term unemployed clients into vacancies
- Knowledge of local labour market linkages and business & community networks
- A current, clear National Police Check
- A current Working With Children Check / QLD Blue Card
