About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this hands-on leadership role is integral in managing our stevedoring operations and will drive operational and safety performance. The successful applicant will thrive on working in a dynamic environment and be committed to quality and continuous improvement with a focus on safety and customer performance standards. Hours are irregular and shifts will vary from day to day to suit business needs.
Skills And Experiences
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise and manage the operations achieving safe and effective results including vessel planning and allocation of labour.
- Lead, motivate and direct employees to perform their functions in accordance with safety and operational standards.
- Appropriately communicate company policy and procedures to the operations team and ensure they are adhered to at all times.
- Select, prepare and direct the use of appropriate equipment in a safe and productive manner.
- Manage individual employee performance including discipline, grievances and training in consultation with the Operations Manager
- Liaise and communicate with TML Coordinators, Shipping Agents, Port Authority and Vessels’ Chief Officers to ensure all tasks are coordinated consistent with sequence of discharge and load plans.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with employment terms (EA’s), HSE legislation and company policy and take necessary corrective action.
- Identify and submit hazard and near miss reports. Conduct safety observations and recommendations for corrective action.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Sound technical knowledge and experience in vessel operations and planning
- Previous experience leading and managing people
- Ability to diagnose, evaluate and resolve operational problems.
- Ability to understand awards and workplace agreements.
- Computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Maintain effective levels of communication within the organisation to enhance teamwork, productivity and customer focus.
