About the Role

As a Level 3 Legal Practitioner in Prosecution Services, you will be trusted to provide critical legal advice to members of DPFEM in relation to summary prosecutions and electable indicatable matters. The role will also provide training and direction to police prosecutors and other DPFEM legal practitioners attached to Prosecution Services.

The position will offer a variety of broad and challenging work experiences and opportunities to assist with the provision of legal services that are critical for the delivery of outcomes that provide benefit to DPFEM and the community.

This role will be in an environment where the contribution of the individual to the overall team environment is highly valued, but the role is expected to be conducted with a high degree of personal autonomy, initiative, flexibility, and independence.

Period of Appointment

Permanent, full-time.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight

Duties

The Legal Practitioner will undertake litigation on behalf of, and provide legal services and support to, the Department.

Essential Requirements

Pre-Employment Checks

The Head of the State Service has determined that a person nominated for appointment to this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer. Any relevant serious criminal offence or repeated serious offences over any period, which are not mitigated by additional information, may provide grounds for declining an application for appointment. Such offences would include, but are not limited to:

  • Arson and fire setting;
  • Sexual offences;
  • Dishonesty (e.g. theft, burglary, breaking and entering, fraud);
  • Deception (e.g. obtaining an advantage by deception);
  • Making false declarations;
  • Violent crimes and crimes against the person;
  • Malicious damage and destruction to property
  • Trafficking of narcotic substance;
  • False alarm raising.
