The Job

The Financial Accountant is responsible for playing a supporting role in month end reporting, statutory accounting and taxation compliance as well as providing professional assistance and support to Management.

The core purpose of this role is to provide accurate and timely financial and management accounting and reporting for all internal and external stakeholders. In addition, this role will engage with stakeholders across the Ngwala, facilitating change, achieving and delivering outcomes, and establishing and implementing business improvements.

The role is responsible for:

  • Managing the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including consolidated reports for by department, region etc.
  • Leading and coordinating internal and external audits, ensuring all documentation and processes meet regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Developing and implementing robust financial controls to safeguard assets and ensure data accuracy.
  • Overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Preparing detailed financial reports and presentations for Finance Manager.
  • Driving strategic initiatives to enhance financial reporting processes through automation and innovative solutions.
  • Providing mentorship and leadership to junior accountants, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial strategies.
  • Staying informed about changes in accounting regulations and best practices, applying updates to internal processes and documentation.

Your Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or business finance or similar
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of and extensive experience working within NFP, Government, and/or Community sector service delivery organizations.
  • Experience in management reporting and ability to analyse financial accounts and information
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, including the ability to set priorities and perform well under pressure;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal history and/or culture and commitment to the Aboriginal community.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience with the capacity to manage and support people
  • Proficient knowledge and expertise in MYOB Systems, Dynamics 365 or similar platform.
  • Expertise in financial modeling and advanced Excel functions, including macros and scenario analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to develop, implement and administer effective policies, procedures, guidelines and systems.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Victorian Driver's License
  • National Police Certificate (no older than 3 months).
  • Victorian Employment Working with Children Check
