About Salute For Service
Salute For Service is an Australian non-profit organization dedicated to supporting current
and former members of the Australian Defence Force. We take a holistic approach to
helping veterans transition to civilian life, focusing on employment, education, training, and
pathways to mental, physical, and psychosocial health.
Role Overview
The Social Worker will deliver comprehensive social work services to veterans, ensuring
adherence to Australian social work standards and Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA)
regulations, including the Coordinated Veterans' Care (CVC) Program. This role involves
assessing clients' needs, developing individualized care plans, providing counseling, and
facilitating access to necessary services and resources.
Key Responsibilities
Client Assessment and Support:
● Conduct thorough assessments of veterans' needs, strengths, and goals.
● Develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans in collaboration with
clients and other service providers.
● Provide counseling and therapeutic support to veterans and their families, addressing
mental, physical, and psychosocial health issues.
Employment, Education, and Training Support:
● Assist clients in identifying and pursuing employment, education, and training
opportunities.
● Collaborate with local employers, educational institutions, and training providers to
facilitate access to opportunities.
● Provide guidance on resume writing, job applications, interview preparation, and
career development.
Health and Wellbeing:
● Facilitate access to mental health, physical health, and psychosocial support
services.
● Coordinate with healthcare providers, including GPs and specialists, to ensure
integrated care.
● Educate clients on health management and wellness strategies.
Compliance and Reporting:
● Ensure all services are delivered in compliance with Australian social work standards
and DVA regulations, including CVC program requirements.
● Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with organizational
policies and legal requirements.
● Prepare reports and documentation as required for program evaluation and
compliance purposes.
Advocacy and Networking:
● Advocate for veterans' rights and access to services and resources.
● Develop and maintain strong working relationships with government agencies,
non-profit organizations, and community groups.
● Participate in community outreach and education activities to promote Salute For
Service's services.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
● Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
● Current registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
● Minimum of 2 years’ experience in social work, preferably with a focus on veterans or
related populations.
● Knowledge of DVA regulations and CVC program requirements.
● Strong understanding of mental health, physical health, and psychosocial issues
affecting veterans.
● Excellent assessment, counseling, and case management skills.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
● Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
Desirable:
● Experience in employment, education, and training support services.
● Familiarity with local community resources and services available to veterans.
