This is a temporary full-time position to commence in Term 2, from 22 April 2025 until 5 December 2025, with the possibility of extension.

Tagai State College, located in the Torres Strait, includes 16 Primary campuses and one Secondary campus spread across 48,000 square kilometers of ocean. With 400 students in grades 7-12, most of whom speak English as an additional language, the College is committed to fostering a dynamic learning environment. The Secondary campus is led by a dedicated team comprising a Head of Campus, 3 Deputy Principals, and 5 Heads of Department, all working together to implement an effective and robust improvement agenda.
About the Role
The HOD Teaching & Learning leads the implementation of systems that enhance staff capability in effective teaching practices, aiming to improve student learning outcomes at Waybeni Koey Ngurpay Mudh. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited, to the following:
Leadership
- Lead the design and implementation of the Whole School Approach to Differentiation
- Lead the implementation of the Whole School Approach to Pedagogy
- Lead professional development for staff on effective pedagogies for EAL/D learners
- Work with the Head of Department for English to design and implement the Whole School Approach to Literacy
- Lead collegial engagement system for staff performance and capability development
Student Support
- Provide support and intervention to students in Year 11 - 12, escalated from the Head of Years
- Work with Heads of Department to refine and implement systems that enhance student engagement in the classroom.
Management
- Oversee the Resource Centre, and manage appropriate staff accordingly.
- Work with the DP to allocate Teacher Aide resources and create timetables, while also planning their professional development and fostering collaboration between Teacher Aides and teachers to enhance student support.

- Strategic thinking and analytical skills to influence the educational agenda for state schooling.
