Curragh Mine is one of the largest open-cut coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin and located only 12 kilometres from the local township of Blackwater.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, this 10-month fixed-term contract offers an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Specialist to contribute to sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. This role will involve working closely with various stakeholders, providing essential environmental support, and playing a part in strengthening our environmental management strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert environmental support by managing Permits to Disturb, conducting inspections, audits, and incident investigations, and ensuring key stakeholders are kept informed.
  • Assist with sustainability reporting, including greenhouse gas and energy (NGER) and National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) reporting, while ensuring accurate data management and compliance with audit requirements.
  • Develop and implement water management strategies to maintain regulatory compliance, optimise water use, and ensure readiness for changing weather conditions.
  • Oversee the management of regulated structures, coordinating timely RPEQ inspections and ensuring all remedial works are completed efficiently and in line with industry standards.
  • Conduct groundwater monitoring and perform detailed data analysis to accurately assess onsite water conditions, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and internal policies.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience in environmental monitoring, data analysis, and reporting, with the ability to interpret and present technical data effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, enhance, and implement robust environmental management systems and protocols.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and drive positive environmental outcomes.
