As the Senior Manager, Major Initiatives , you will play a pivotal role in shaping UQ’s research landscape. Working across faculties, institutes, and external partners, you will identify and lead interdisciplinary, high-profile initiatives that position UQ at the forefront of competitive funding opportunities.
In this dynamic role, you will provide expert strategic advice, develop innovative research partnerships, and design mechanisms that foster collaboration across disciplines. You will empower researchers with the insights, connections, and strategies needed to turn bold ideas into successful funding bids.

Key responsibilities will include :

Identify and lead interdisciplinary, cross-faculty, and cross-organisational research initiatives to develop competitive consortia for major funding opportunities.

Offer strategic advice, data-driven insights, and expert recommendations to researchers and senior leadership to enhance UQ’s positioning for large-scale funding.

Build and sustain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, industry partners, government bodies, and funding agencies to support impactful research collaborations.

Lead training programs, workshops, and strategic sessions to equip researchers and professional staff with the skills and knowledge needed to secure and manage major research grants.

Proven ability to identify, develop, and drive large-scale, collaborative research initiatives and secure major funding opportunities.

Extensive experience providing strategic advice and research development support within a university, industry, or government setting.

Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with researchers, senior leadership, industry partners, and funding bodies.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex research funding landscapes and develop competitive positioning strategies.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality proposals, reports, and presentations, and deliver engaging workshops and training.

A proactive and adaptable mindset, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, think strategically, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
