About Us

Bidgerdii Community Health Service is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled primary health care service, operating in the Central Queensland region for close to 30 years. Bidgerdii provides comprehensive primary health and well-being services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Blackwater, Rockhampton and surrounding regions.

About the Role

This position is a Full-Time role, located within the Blackwater Bidgerdii CHS clinic and forms part of the Integrated Team Care/ Allied Health Service work unit team. which is responsible for working with clients, general practitioners, and a broad range of other relevant services, to facilitate provision of appropriate multidisciplinary care for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people with target chronic diseases , to help them manage their health in a way that meets their individual needs and will result in improved health outcomes .

The Indigenous Outreach Worker will be responsible for encouraging the development and support ongoing and meaningful relationships between mainstream primary care and Indigenous Health sectors. The successful candidate will also actively promote Closing the Gap and the Integrated Team Care (ITC) Program to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People, GPs, and other stakeholder groups.

About You

If you are passionate about supporting children to be developmentally on track when commencing school through actively working across existing child, family, or community service and have the following:

  • A relevant qualification or skills, knowledge and experience in a similar role.
  • High-level knowledge and experience in computers and office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and a willingness to learn and use other software packages.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with people from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated understanding of health-related issues impacting upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Experience in the provision of culturally sensitive non-clinical services and/or care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Practical Requirements

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential
  • Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, hepatitis A and pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card (note a current Blue Card will be required prior to commencement)
  • Satisfactory Police Check.
