The Opportunity:

McArthur is seeking a Governance Officer, who will provide administrative support to the Council, Committees and elected representatives of the Council. This role will also assist the Government Unit in meeting Unit and Divisional objectives through administrative support, as required.

This is a great temporary opportunity until June 30th 2025, and is in a fantastic location walking distance from the Dock. The position offers full time hours, may require attendance to meetings outside of business hours. And has a casual rate of $53.73 per hour + Superannuation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of agendas, minutes and attendance at meetings of the Council and its Committees, capturing the minutes and to ensure the appropriate notification and referral of actions and correspondence arising from the meetings.
  • Manage the logistics of special meetings and organise briefings for Elected Members.
  • Ensure that Council and Committee deadlines are met, that correct procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Prepare correspondence and reports arising from Council and Committee meetings.
  • Undertake research for projects required by Council and its Committees and in support of the functions of the Governance Unit.
  • Demonstrated experience in Change Management / required skillset for continuous improvement.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in the delivery of high volume and high-quality administrative support to a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake research and project work and deliver outcomes on time.
  • Strong computer literacy coupled with an ability to plan, recognise and adapted to changing priorities in a high-volume work environment, producing accurate work under pressure.
  • An understanding of the operation of local government and the capacity to work in a political environment.
  • Well-developed problem-solving abilities, and ability to use sound judgment in a political context.
  • A demonstrated commitment to principles of quality, improvement and excellent customer service and the ability to engender the same in others.

Essential Criteria:

  • Current Driver's License.
  • Proof of working rights.
  • Clear National Police Check.
  • Pre-employment Medical Assessment.
  • Diploma in Business Management, Public Sector Administration or similar coupled with significant experience in working in a similar environment.
