About the role:

As a result of growth in the Corporation, we are seeking a Team Leader - Financial Accounting and Reporting to join our Financial Accounting and Reporting section. In this role you will lead the team responsible for preparing the Corporation’s overall financial reporting in accordance with statutory requirements and maintenance of financial policies. This key role will be instrumental in the delivery of the Corporation’s financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and strengthening financial controls. Reporting to the Finance Manager – Financial Accounting & Reporting, this position requires a tactical and analytical leader with a deep understanding of accounting principles and financial management.

The role will suit an individual who thrives in a fast paced, dynamic environment who possess the self-confidence to approach change with enthusiasm and a ‘can do’ approach. There are weeks where no one day is the same, and your agile ability to re-prioritise tasks will be essential in this challenging but rewarding environment. Due to the nature of the role and preparing for the interim and year-end audit requirements, the role is expected to be primarily based in the Leederville office full-time, with flexible working hours where possible.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading an experienced qualified team, preparing technical financial accounting position papers, liaising and collaborating with internal and external business stakeholders, and contributing to strategic initiatives & process improvement

Key skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree level qualification in commerce or business.
  • CA/CPA Full Qualification is essential.
  • A minimum of three years of proven leadership experience in a financial lead/management role is required.
  • Substantial experience in providing a specialist accounting and reporting service in an asset /infrastructure intensive organisation will be advantageous.
  • Critical thinking, analytical skills and decision-making abilities are essential to address our diverse reporting requirements.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • You will possess an in-depth understanding of financial accounting standards and compliance requirements to provide internal advice.
  • Considerable experience in financial process and system improvements.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial accounting treatments, developments and relevant legislation impacting on commercialised government trading enterprises is desirable.

What the role will involve:

  • Lead the accurate and timely preparation of the Corporation’s financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards
  • As the subject matter expert, provide technical financial reporting guidance and advice on matters relating to the Corporation’s accounting positions. This includes new emerging transactions along with analysis and commentary to support the financial reports and management decision making.
  • Coordinate and communicate with auditors and internal and external stakeholders to ensure planning and completion of external audit activities.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of the Corporation’s external quarterly financial reports and supplementary information to the Department of Treasury.
  • Manage, develop and mentor direct reports to ensure the team has the capability and knowledge of financial principles to meet business needs and corporate compliance requirements related to financial accounting data collection and reporting.
  • Development and documentation of the Corporation’s Financial Accounting policies, guidelines, systems and procedures, to satisfy statutory requirements and accepted commercial accounting standards and practices.
  • Undertake research on matters related to the Corporation’s financial policies and procedures and recommend and implement appropriate changes as required.
  • Preparation of internal advice to the business on the Corporation’s financial accounting policies and interpretation of relevant accounting standards and practice .
  • Manage the maintenance, integrity and improvement of the Corporation’s monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely internal deliverables are met in relation to budgeting, forecasting, and commentary analysis related to the balance sheet accounts.
