Educational Technologist

  • Assist staff to develop their digital capabilities in learning and teaching
  • Based in Hobart, Launceston, Burnie or remotely/online
  • Full time fixed term until February 2026 (Leave backfill)

About the opportunity

The Educational Technologist will work as part of a team to provide technical support to academic and professional staff in the design, development, management, and delivery of online and blended courses. In this people-focused role, they will provide expert advice about the best practices in the use of technologies for the development of engaging learning content and activities.

In addition, they are required to follow project management procedures to help produce high quality content and activities to agreed deadlines. The role will also involve providing individual and group training to academic and professional staff on learning and teaching technologies.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide specialist, professional advice, and support to academic and teaching staff on teaching, learning and assessment with digital technologies.
  • Undertake and manage tasks that support online learning and teaching in unit contexts - both independently and in collaboration with Educational Designers and academic staff.
  • Continuously develop and improve knowledge and skills in the use of new and existing learning technologies.
  • Deliver work to a high-quality standard and encourage opportunities for collaboration with other academic support teams and between schools and colleges.
  • Identify opportunities to refine processes to improve productivity within the team of Educational Designers and Educational Technologists, particularly using generative AI and other emerging technologies.­

What we’re looking for:

  • Completion of a degree in Educational Technology, ICT, Digital Media or Education with subsequent experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, and/or training.
  • Experience using learning management systems (in particular, D2L Brightspace) and integrated systems such as PebblePad and Echo360 at a high level of access (e.g., support/instructor access).
  • Experience in creating HTML content, media content (e.g., video and graphics), and interactive activities using tools such as H5P which comply with guidelines on web accessibility and copyright.
  • Experience in supporting and advising academic staff and others with a teaching role who are seeking to use innovative online solutions tailored to their context.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communicating with people who have a range of technical understanding.
  • Adept in keeping up to date with current learning technologies and producing succinct, accurate guides and training for staff as required.
  • Proven expertise in integrating Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools within educational settings, with a strong understanding of their applications, limitations, ethical considerations, and impact on academic integrity.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $113,029 comprising base salary within the range of $89,091 to $96,606 plus 17% superannuation.
