About the Opportunity
The position operates with professional independence to coordinate the scientific examination of exhibits and forensic samples in complex casework; Contributes to group initiatives to ensure continual improvement of a high quality and timely forensic biology service; Interprets the results of biological examinations and DNA analyses and providing results to clients in a high throughput environment.
The role will be offered at PO3 classification. You will work independently to co-ordinate biology casework of a complex nature arising from major and highly sensitive matters, including the interpretation and reporting of results of biological examinations and DNA analyses. You will present factual and opinion evidence to stakeholders and also as an expert witness in court.
About the Business
Forensic Science SA (FSSA) provides a comprehensive, coordinated range of services to agencies associated with the justice system including the State Coroner, South Australia Police (SAPOL), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and defence and civil litigants.
We are part of the Attorney General’s Department and the Director, FSSA reports to the Executive Director, Finance, People & Performance.
Within FSSA there are four scientific/medico-legal operational areas: Pathology, Chemistry, Biology and Toxicology, each analysing materials using a diverse range of scientific equipment and processes.
The operational areas are supported by Administration, Information Technology and Projects, Science Support and Quality, who each provide underpinning services in support of the operational areas.

Special Conditions for Employment
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

Some out of hours work may be required.
Must have a science degree relevant to molecular biology. Some out of hours work may be required to respond to urgent SA Police and Coronial casework.
Interstate travel may be required for training, research, or professional development activity. Incumbent must provide a reference DNA sample so that their DNA profile can be generated and stored on a Quality Assurance Register (QAR).
