Primary objective
Ensure compliance with the Planning Act 1999 and Planning Schemes, including undertaking compliance and enforcement
inspections, provision of advice and information and the preparation of related documentation and correspondence.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Receive and register complaints relating to alleged contraventions of the Planning Act 1999 .
2. Undertake inspections and investigate potential breaches of planning controls and provide advice and report evidence
on planning issues.
3. Prepare timely, concise and comprehensive correspondence and reports on enforcement and compliance matters in
accordance with unit procedures.
4. Assist the Senior Enforcement and Compliance Officer in developing prosecution actions and provide evidence in court
actions and/or appear before the Development Consent Authority, as required.
5. Provide advice, information and education to industry and the public in relation to compliance and enforcement under
the Planning Act 1999 .
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge of investigative techniques.
2. Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to read plans and interpret land information, legislation and regulations
to enable accurate interpretation of the Planning Act 1999 and provision of advice regarding compliance issues.
3. Demonstrated ability to prepare clear and concise documentation and correspondence relating to enforcement actions.
4. Ability to provide evidence both in person and in writing in court and/or appear before the Development Consent
Authority.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate positively and effectively with a diverse range of clients, both orally and in writing
and proven experience in exercising initiative, discretion, negotiation and problem solving to resolve issues.
6. Working knowledge of land information systems to enable registration and tracking of the status of all enforcement and
compliance actions.
7. Current Northern Territory Drivers Licence.
Desirable
1. Working knowledge of planning legislation and development processes in the Northern Territory.
2. Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or similar.
