  • Preventive Health SA – Population Health – Mental Wellbeing and Suicide and Injury Prevention
  • Salary: $108,109 to $116,864 – ASO7 – Full Time / Term Contract up to 26 March 2027

Overview:

  • Postvention is a response to death by suicide and can be defined as ‘activities developed by, with, or for suicide survivors, in order to facilitate recovery after suicide, and to prevent adverse outcomes including suicidal behaviour’. Whilst postvention is recognised as a key element of a comprehensive suicide prevention strategy, there is currently no population health approach, nor state-wide action plan in South Australia, to support suicide postvention in the community.
  • Reporting to the Manager, Mental Wellbeing and Suicide and Injury Prevention, this role will lead the development and implementation of a state-wide approach to suicide postvention in South Australia, which minimises the duplication of services, promotes awareness to alleviate confusion, and enables access to bespoke supports which meet communities need to prevent suicide ( as informed by communities ). This will require the engagement of key strategic partners across all stages of planning and maturation, particularly in the areas of governance, partnerships and stakeholders, performance insights and data, and service delivery model.
  • Given the breadth and complexity understood to realise the objective, a phased approach will incorporate the following initiatives and elements:
  1. Establishment of a strategic oversight body.
  2. Development of a South Australian Suicide Postvention Framework inclusive of prevention, preparedness planning, response, and recovery coordination.
  3. Formulation of agreed guidelines for the provision of state and community level suicide cluster and contagion surveillance.
  4. Develop and maintain a state-level postvention resource hub for government and non-government services, organisations, communities, and community groups.
  5. Identification of best-practice training and education programs for enhancement of community knowledge and response to suicidal distress.
  6. Design and deployment of evidence-informed resources, materials, and toolkits as develop through a consortium of subject matter experts and lead organisations.

  • A National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment)

SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.

Special Conditions

  • Must have a current, valid and unencumbered South Australian driver’s license and willingness to drive a government plated car.
  • Intrastate travel may be required.
  • Appointment is subject to immunisation risk category requirements. There may be ongoing immunisation requirements that must be met.
