About the Role:

The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is seeking solicitors to join our dynamic Trial Division on an ongoing basis. As a Solicitor within this division, you will play a key role in the heart of our operations, responsible for preparing and conducting a variety of matters for early resolution or trials in the County and Supreme Courts of Victoria. This is an excellent opportunity for early career solicitors who are looking for long-term career progression, and structured professional development within a leading prosecution agency.

In this role you will:

  • Prepare and instruct in summary prosecutions, committals, appeals, trial and other hearings in the Magistrates' and County Court.
  • Undertake research and analysis of legal issues and providing advice and recommendations as required.
  • Ensure that cases are efficiently and expeditiously prepared and presented before the Court.

Positions are Melbourne based; however occasional regional travel may be a requirement of the position. A vehicle and overnight accommodation are provided as required.

About you:

You will be a dedicated solicitor looking to build a long-term career in criminal prosecution, with:

  • Knowledge of Criminal Law and Procedure, the Law of Evidence and other relevant legislation.
  • The ability to undertake legal research as required to prepare prosecutions of moderate complexity.
  • High level interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

You will be admitted to the legal profession as an Australian Lawyer and hold a current Victorian Practising Certificate.
